About the artwork
I love painting Glossy Black Cockatoos, and Miss Flossy is one of my favourites. Female Glossy’s have yellow head feathers that are unique like fingerprints, and are known as ‘Flossys’ because they look like the yellow fairy floss.
She was painted from a beautiful reference photo, used with permission from photographer Jade Welch. The original artwork was sold to a mate and fellow conservationist, and I’m so happy that Miss Flossy can now continue her story through prints, cards, and posters.
Glossy Black Cockatoos are a threatened species, relying on she-oaks (Allocasuarinas) for food and old hollow trees for nesting. Both are disappearing due to fire, overdevelopment, and logging.
A portion of every sale is donated to Wildlife Preservation Clarence Valley.
Thank you for supporting Australian wildlife art and helping conserve these incredible birds and their habitat.
